These fantastic photo manipulations are the work of Thomas Barbey.  He uses either a Mamiya RB 67 or several old Canon AE-1s to shoot the photos and then overlaps negatives until he obtains the right mix.

This photomontage is done extremely well. The two images are transparent but you can clearly tell what you are viewing. The colors are also very effective as the vibrant red and blue overlap each other against a black background which really makes them pop.
