Althorp was built in 1508, by the Spencers, for the Spencers, and that is how it has remained for over 500 years - the family line has contained politicians, courtiers, admirals, society beauties and pioneers in charity work, as well as gamblers, book lovers, and even a breeder of prize bulls. They were all related, but each Spencer was unique in time and taste.
Althorp Estate - Princess Diana is buried here. The estate has been in the Spencer family since the century. It's a lovely place. When I went there I met Princess Diana's father. He was a charming & delightful man.
ALTHORP - THE SUNDERLAND ROOM The paintings in this room were chosen by the current Earl in homage to John Charles (‘Jack’), Third Earl Spencer . Jack was a countryman, whose main passions were foxhunting and farming. He was not a collector.
