Parvati with attendant, Tiruvengimalai, Trichy District. Height 92cm. 10th Century. Parvati stands in a tribhanga with an attendant. A masterpiece of Chola art! She stands on an oval padmasana over a rectangular bhadrasana. Her right hand is in the posture of holding a flower and her left hand is placed on the head of her dwarf attendant (Vamanika). The modeling of the breasts, the disposition of the hands, especially that of the left hand display a gentle frailty.
