Hatfield and Mccoy feud--The hanging of Ellison "Cottontop" Mounts --the start…

Charles Mallory Hatfield, born in Fort Scott in 1875, was known as "The Rainmaker" and was renowned for techniques that were believed to create deluges during seasons of drought and dry weather. The film "The Rainmaker" (1956) starring Burt Lancaster is based on Hatfield's exploits.

In his free time, Charles Mallory Hatfield read about “pluviculture” and began to develop his own methods for producing rain. By 1902 he had created a secret mixture of 23 chemicals in large galvanized evaporating tanks that, he claimed, attracted rain.
