A small selection of my travel photography that shows a slightly different approach. Of course I photograph food and hotels, but sometimes the details tell you more about a place.
Once a Warrior by Rex Homan, Māori artist (KR131201)
Medium: kauri, pounamu (New Zealand jade carved by Peter Homan), acrylic base. Size: 32 x 29.5 x 10.5 inches (incl. base). Aotearoa today is a multicultural society; however racial integration has only occurred in the last 200 years. Prior to European settlement the Polynesian Māori alone occupied the land.
Character Design - Maori Warrior, Jessica Madorran
My submission for this month’s Character Design Challenge. The theme was Maori Warrior. :)
Matau • Fish Hook by Todd Couper, Māori artist (KC111201)
Medium: kauri, rātā base. Size: 15 x 7 x 3.25 inches (incl. base). This simple hook form can symbolize the profound connections Māoridom has with the sea, as a source of food, a provider of raw materials and the binding element linking Māori to their homeland of Hawaiki. Strongly associated with the legendary warrior Māui, the story tells of how he fished up the North Island using his grandmother's jawbone as a hook.
