Tui are one of my favourite New Zealand birds. Their beautiful song, striking colours and feather patterns, and their rumbustious, bullying behaviour and loud noisy flight, all add to their appeal. Tui are an endemic passerine bird of New Zealand. It is one of the largest members of the diverse honeyeater family. Puriri Moth (Pepe Tuna) Aenetus virescens
Native NZ's largest moth - wingspan up to 15 cms. (this one was only 10 cms. and was unfortunately dead) They don't eat and have no mouth and live for only a few days. The caterpillar bores into various trees eating the inner bark and outer sapwood for up to 5 years before emerging for it's short life as a moth.
