The Admiral and The General

Although the pub is most likely named after General Sir Charles James Napier, GCB (10 August 1782 – 29 August 1853), the swing sign depicts a different man with the same name. Admiral Sir Charles John Napier KCB GOTE RN (6 March 1786 – 6 November 1860) was a British naval officer whose sixty years in the Royal Navy included service in the War of 1812 (with the United States), the Napoleonic Wars, and the Crimean War.
