Just before Christmas, I was reading the style advice for a pattern from Fibremood. Fibremood gives individual style tips for every silhouette for each pattern. There was a blousy top I was looking at, it suggested that those who have a A shape(me) should use fabric that had more body (stiffer fabrics) to balance the body out. #sewezi #theportablesewingroom #portablesewing #thesewingrevival #bellbirdtop #boxtoppattern #nzsews #sewover50 #sewing

During lockdown had a need to knit a mohair cardigan. So used up ends and knitted up the Grown ups polly cardy from Touch Yarns. I knit loose and I didn't down size my needles enough. Only went down one size should had gone down two. So alittle bigger than I expected. Like wearing a warm hug. Sille Blouse from Wardrobe by me made with pink viscose from Drapers Fabrics underneath.

Brought this digital printed tee last year from very cool exhibition in Shanghai. One of those I must have purchases, then I think I dont wear polyester because I shock myself. So I have been coveting this away wondering what to do with with it. Then this morning it came to me. Sewing machine cover. I love the fabric and now I will see it everytime before I sew.

Over the past weekend the NZ Iris Safari visited our garden. In the true spirit of these types of things there are always raffles as fundraisers. I made two bags with iris fabric for a couple of the prizes. I constructed the pattern using a 28.5cm diameter salad bowl as the base and made the depth 45cm, basically the bag is a cylinder with a base and handles

I was determined to make some pants that I liked. Firstly, I sewed the Style Arc Clare Pant in the navy check. Oh dear, those pockets and pleats on my hips. Going back to my good intentions for the year about persevering, I undid basically the whole pant removed the pleats and re stitched, I also lowered the seat at the back. The reason I took the pockets out was the cotton poplin check I used was stiff.

I have made the Grainline Studio Scout Tee before in voile and this time made it in linen. I like it in the voile, or something a bit softer than this weight of linen. I love the colours but they are slightly stiff looking.
At the end of November 2019 I had a great sewing getaway and had a bit of a making frenzy. I haven’t sewn knit for years and decided to make some t-shirts. The pattern I used was Ottobre 2/17 Statement T-Shirt. That’s right I made 4……

the back yoke detail on this dress. This detail gives stability and strength to fragile fabrics, holding the shoulder straps firmly together. The key design point I have found to keep straps from slipping off your shoulders with strap dresses, is how close they together and the angle they are set at..
The second dress is made from rayon, this fabric behaved in a similar way to the original I took the pattern from, so no alternations were needed.

Roll forward to my end of summer sew away 2020. I decided I really liked this shirt and wanted to make a couple more. BUT, I needed to adjust the previous ones before I made new ones. SO, to the two original ones, I reshaped from under the arms to the hem removing effectively 16cm. The shoulders I decided I could live with not sitting on the shoulder point. I didn’t realise just how voluminous the style was originally.
I find Burda shirt and top patterns on the whole a good fit for me. I am a size 48 in body and 46 neck and shoulders. Sometimes I need to do a bicep adjustment. With this shirt I followed the pattern, the only adjustment I made was to remove the hip gusset, I didn’t need it, it looked as though I had wings on my hips, definitely an unnecessary addition. I was pleased with the outcome.

I have had this pattern in the drawer since this time last year (missmaudesewing.co.nz), originally I brought it to make the dress version. But at the moment I wanted to have another white-based box top in my wardrobe, so thought I would give this a go. I had purchased this swiss cotton pique print 8 years ago, and had it waiting for when the opportunity arose. My bust measurement is between 16-18 according to the pattern. So I made the size 18 to be sure….. Accessories, Box Tops, Scarf, Top, Size

Ok, I admit I might have overdone the makes with this top. I have made it a total of 14 times now in all variations. I love it, it is so easy, goes together like a dream.
