Using wood ashes for your chickens saves money. (fireplace ash only, not BBQ coals, etc) and when needed, mix 2 parts ash to 1 part sand for the chickens to do their dust bathing. It keeps mites away. That and paint the coop with hydrated lime.
"Use a solar light inside the chicken run to attract bugs for the chickens to eat." This would be particularly useful during the twilight hour when the chooks aren't quite ready for bed but the bugs come out en masse.
Chicken Bath 101 -- Community Chickens- im not a crazy chicken lady but like know the food my family eats comes from a healthy clean source. I don't recommend OVER DOING this but feel like its a good routine probably semi annually with the whole flock
So you can let them out and get them in anytime you want. Or call them to safety when predators lurk. Or when you have new pullets free ranging with old flock, and need to get each flock to its own coop.
