koru swirls  Great pictures for lesson

Koru - The unfolding spiral tipped shoots of the New Zealand silver fern plant become new fern fronds. Thus the reference to new life or a new start. Especially in Maori culture, these Koru have a strong symbolical meaning.

From my native homeland.  The curled Ponga (Tree Fern) koru. The koru is the budlike beginning of a fern leaf before it opens. The symbol is prominent in traditional Maori art motifs such as bone and wood carvings, and tattoos (moko). The unfurling koru leaf pattern represents new beginnings.
