Slope Point is the southernmost tip of New Zealand's South Island. Decades ago, local farmers planted saplings which they hoped would help shelter their sheep from the often savagely inclement weather. The airstreams which loop the vast circumpolar Southern Ocean are unobstructed for 2,000 miles before arriving here. As the trees grew, the unrelenting wind coming in from the ocean caused their trunks & branches to twist & grow in a northerly direction. #myt
