Our road-trip through the South Island of New Zealand started out in Christchurch. My husband and I had a hard time planning this trip to NZ since there is so much to see and do here and we did not have as much time as we would have liked. Streets Kite Day - New Brighton
At first glance it looks like a body of water but these kites are flying near very wet sand. There are quite a few large inflatable kites in this shot plus some big parafoils. Aerial View of New Brighton, the old wooden pier was gone then. That should help narrow down that date a wee bit. The Ryan bros demolished the old pier in 1965 (in one day apparently). and before the shoreline burnt down. 1970's. New Brighton, Christchurch, New Zealand

Kite Day in New Brighton
From this viewpoint, the kites seem fairly densely packed. The anchor points are in rocky ground which is unusual. Though perhaps handy for some of the smaller kites, with winders and reels held in place with rocks... T.P. Sunrise at New Brighton. I didn't know whether to clone out the flying gull or leave it in, so on a whim I left it in. Most times I have to clone the flying gulls out due to the slow shutter speed used.
