Josephine Baker was the first African American female to star in a motion picture, to integrate an American concert hall, and to become a world-famous entertainer.  Not only was Josephine beautiful, but she brought incredible amounts of change to the US for African Americans.  After growing up being abused by her white female employer, Josephine went to to live as a child of the streets, using street performances to support herself.  She soon became the “highest paid chorus girl in vaudevill... This photo was taken by Tom Howard and the next day published in the New York Daily News. In 1967, Kathrine Switzer was the first woman to run the Boston marathon. After realizing that a woman was running, race organizer Jock Semple went after Switzer shouting, “Get the hell out of my race and give me those numbers.” However, Switzer’s boyfriend and other male runners provided a protective shield during the entire marathon.The photographs taken of the incident made world headlines, and Kathrine later won the 1974 NYC marathon (women's division) with a time of 3:07:29. Tina was the first known honor killing victim in the US, killed on 6 November 1989, in Missouri. Her father was under surveillance by the FBI for connections to the PLO. In FBI surveillance tapes (FBI surveillance unit not staffed that night) she can be heard screaming, pleading for her life while her mother holds her down and her father stabs her in the chest with a boning knife while shouting "Die quickly my daughter."
