Barred Owl 5579
Seeing this Barred Owl for the first time in the wild was the absolute highlight of this trip to Vancouver Island. I saw "something" fly and then saw robins bothering him. He sat patiently for a few minutes allowing me to get this shot.

Morepork or Ruru (Ninox novaeseelandiae) this native New Zealand owl was seen as a watchfull guardian by the Maori as its a creature of the night it is the only native owl that survived on the north island. It is often heard calling within dawn. the morepork is about 30cm big and weights 175 grams.
