A view looking up the curved, cobbled West Bow which is a street in Edinburgh, Scotland. It is night time and the scene is lit by old style lantern lighting with the building fronts being painted in varied colours, rather than all the same.
Here in Edinburgh for the first time! I'm loving it... here's a photo from last night. Anyway, I'm here for a MONTH exploring the whole country and having all sorts of adventures... loving it... then New York, then Austin, then Burning Man, then LA and finally back home to New Zealand. Good times! #TreyRatcliff #Edinburgh #Night #StreetPhotography #Architecture #Historic
The Thiruvalluvar Statue, located atop a small island, near the town of Kanyakumari on the southernmost point of the Indian peninsula. You know those “free desktop wallpaper” sites? For some reason this image always appears on them, it’s like it is included in the toolkit used to build the sites it is so frequent! I get nothing from it, usually not even credit but hey… people seem to download it regularly and that hopefully means it brightens their day when they see their desktop. On a previous trip to Hong Kong one of my goals was to explore as much of the government housing as possible, getting away from my usual haunts in the main city. Here is one of the final shots of the night, as we continued to explore, just before I headed off back to the hotel with sore feet but a mind racing with memories of the day. A view across Lake Hayes in New Zealand. It is an autumn day so the hills are turning warmer colors. The Sky is blue, scattered with plenty of fluffy clouds and these are reflected in the absolutely still water below. Drones are so good nowadays; I almost prefer to use them over my regular camera. When it comes to shooting landscape photos, the f-stop isn’t especially important since you want everything in focus anyway. Also, it has around the same number of megapixels as my high-end Sony, so there is not a lot of difference. And, if you are making panoramas, you can still make prints at least 10ft across, which is more than big enough for major installations. #TreyRatcliff #NewZealand #Reflection #LakeHayes
The sun sets across the bay in San Francisco with Alcatraz on the horizon and mountains beyond. Beautiful Sky, Beautiful World, Beautiful Places, Stunning, Beautiful Moments, Lovely, Hdr Photos, California Photos
I was over on Treasure Island one evening taking photos when I saw the sun sinking through a lot of moisture in the air. I also saw Alcatraz out in the water, so I jumped in a car to drive around and find a spot where everything lined up together. Turned out not too bad and ended up being a great night too! #TreyRatcliff #SanFrancisco #Alcatraz #TheRock #Sunset
A figure walks through the old, cobbled, streets of Mont Saint Michel in Normandy, France. It is night and the old buildings are lit from inside by warm light. There is little street lighting and the tall buildings disappear off into dark shadows as they rise. Desktop Background Images, Desktop Backgrounds, Desktop Wallpapers, Visit France, Walled City, Mont Saint Michel, Medieval Town
I think if you ever go to Mont Saint-Michel that you should really try to stay up on the island. Hotel space is extremely limited, but it gives you the chance to walk around the old walled town deep into the night. All the tourists are gone, and the only people around are the supposed 30 people that live there, according to Google. #TreyRatcliff #France #MontSaintMichel #HDR #Night #StreetPhotography
A person in a long white dress made from a fine mesh material which is see-through. They are also wearing long tail like fabric from their upper arms which is blowing in the breeze as they walk across the dusty desert at burning man. Their hair, like the dress is s pale colour, almost white and they are wearing large pilot style goggles as the sun sets in the distance. Lighting Techniques, Long Walks, My Favorite Image, The Other Side, Burning Man, Best Hotels, Daily Inspiration
My first year at Burning Man I didn’t have a bike, but since I didn’t know any different, I didn’t mind. Since then, I’ve invested in an ebike and it allows me to explore way more, which is awesome. That said, while wandering around at that first burn I started to explore different lighting techniques, and how to make sure someone is perfectly lit even if they are on the other side of the sun. It’s a difficult technique, a life’s work, much like myself. #TreyRatcliff #BurningMan #Portrait
The sun rises behind the Sydney Opera House. In the foreground the calm waters of the harbour reflect the orange and blue sky above. The sun is just peeking over the roof of the opera house, casting sunrays all around the frame. Sunset Photography, Sunset Views, Sunrise Sunset, Beautiful Sunrise, Cityscape
I can’t remember if I was up super late, or up early on this day but whatever the case it was worth the effort! #TreyRatcliff #sunrise #sydney #australia #SydneyOperaHouse
A view of the town of Cinque Terre. The town is at the base of a cliff and is a collection of brightly coloured buildings which surround a small harbour. The sea is a bright blue and the steep hills above a deep green. Places To See, Europe Photos, Adventure Bucket List
You are not really supposed to use your drone here, but I am also the kind of person that likes to break the rules if I don’t really feel like it’s that big of a deal. I know… that’s the mind of an artist. Also, what’s the downside, as long as you are not over people, etc? There is no prison in Cinque Terre! I think… #TreyRatcliff #Coast #Seascape #Italy
An intricately carved temple made of wood sits in the desert at Burning man. It is a pale wood, close in tone to the dust/sand of the desert. Above it a storm cloud is swirling, deep blue in color. Man Photography, Flowers Photography, Photomontage, Burning Man Art, Black Rock Desert, Desert Sun, No Rain
This was one of those strange weather situations where there was an epic cloud over the perfectly sunlight temple. This scene only lasted for a few moments before the downpour. And, lesson learned: You gotta get back to your camp before the rain hits. The mud gets incredibly thick and gums up your bike and boots, making any significant movement almost impossible. #TreyRatcliff #Weather #BurningMan #Temple #Storm #Cloud
The Shard towers above the London Skyline, it's glass a cool blue/green color. The sky is illuminated bright oranges and yellows by the sun as it falls towards the horizon. London Architecture, The Shard, Moron, Antarctica, 5 Years
I had not been to London for about 4/5 years, and then when I got there I saw this huge building! I had never heard of it being built and I didn’t even know the name. I asked my British friend, “What the hell is THAT!?!” and he said, “It’s The Shard you moron.” Haha man… it was such a surprise. I really love taking photos of it too… reminds me of the surprise of the first time I saw it. #TheShard #TreyRatcliff #London #Architecture #Sunset
The silhouette of a large rock formation climbs into the sky in the middle distance. In the foreground the landscape is dark, shadowy as the sun has just gone down. It still illuminates the sky with bright orange at the horizon, passing through pinks and purples up to pale blue in the clouds. The shapes in Monument Valley are right out of all the westerns you watched when you were a kid. So, when I was there for the first time it was a bit surreal and to top it off, the universe presented me with a great sky too! #TreyRatcliff #Landscape #MonumentValley

A view of the Southern Alps in New Zealand from a helicopter. The mountains are photographed in such a way that there is no scale, instead they are monochrome which brings out the jagged rock detail mixed with the white ice on the peaks. The full frame is filled by these rows of black rock, extending into the distance. Quotes About Photography, What A Beautiful World, Fantasy Homes, The Mountains Are Calling, Long Trips, Photo Projects, Oh The Places Youll Go
I took this photo while flying on a helicopter out to work on a photo project for a patron. That project took over a year or so to complete, so I ended up doing a lot of these flights. This one was in the middle of winter because I wanted to shoot the Earnslaw Burn in those conditions. My shot there that day came out kind of boring, maybe the most interesting was this one while I was on the way there! #TreyRatcliff #NewZealand #Alps #Landscape
The small dunes of White Sands National Park extend to the horizon where there is the silhouette of distant mountains. It is a sparce scene with pale blue sky and a figure standing in the middle distance, tiny in the landscape. Travel Art, Photography Challenge, Types Of Cameras, National Parks
I took this about an hour after the sun dipped below the distant mountain in White Sands National Park. Incredible, isn’t it? It looks like it’s freezing cold because that’s what snow normally looks like, but it was actually quite balmy and perfect. #TreyRatcliff #WhiteSands #NationalPark #Landscape
A settlement sits on a red stone hill in the Sedona desert. Above it a storm is forming in a circular pattern with the clouds, dark and foreboding, looking as if they will consume the building. Stunning Photography, Pretty Pictures, Cool Photos, Sedona Vortex, Sedona Arizona, Nature Photos
Wow I almost got stuck in a torrential downpour here! You don’t want to be hiking around when these things hit… the clay on these mountains in Sedona gets super-slippery and it’s a great recipe for going ass-over-teakettle. There’s a little settlement up there on top of that mountain —don’t know if you can see it or not, but it looks like the universe is about to suck it up! #TreyRatcliff #Sedona #USA #Landscape #Storm
The empty road extends towards the horizon where it disappears among some trees. Beyond them are the jagged peaks, somewhat snow covered, of the southern alps in New Zealand. This is the road to Milford Sound/Piopiotahi. I took this photo on a moody autumn morning when the road was empty and quiet, except for the occasional sheep grazing by the side. I was captivated by the contrast between the rugged peaks and the smooth surface of the road mixed with the vibrant colors of nature. #TreyRatcliff
Viewed from atop a hill covered in green vegetation the island of Virgin Gorda extends off into the distance, surrounded by water on both sides. On the horizon there is a pale pink in the sky however above this are moody dark clouds as a storm rolls in. Amazing Nature, Amazing Places, Photography Lessons, Learning Photography, Photography Pictures
This turned out to be one of my favorite spots on Virgin Gorda. There is a long road that trails up and down the island. Along one side of the big mountain, there is a little spot where you can get this perspective. I went up there early to grab photos of the sunset, but I was greeted with the sight of a massive storm rolling in instead! #Storm #Landscape #TreyRatcliff #Sunset #VirginGorda
As the sun sets in New Zealand this view looks over Lake Wakatipu, with mountain peaks in the distance. There are some moody clouds in the sky but overall it is a soft, warm (golden) color. The lake, being impacted by a light breeze, shares the same golden hue with some light texture from the waves. Bleu Nature, Mountain Photography
The colors here in New Zealand go a little crazy when the clouds are in the sky! I’m not sure what it is… I think this very cold lake also does something to the air to make it a bit… thicker… or have more moisture in the air… or something! #TreyRatcliff #NewZeland #Sunset #Landscape
