(PhysOrg.com) -- Feathers of the flightless kakapo are being flown around the world as part of a Massey biologist’s quest to understand the role of the critically endangered native parrot’s sense of smell and the power of male feather fragrance on breeding behaviour.

Taken 17 years before Sirocco the famous kakapo even hatched, it shows kakapo Mandy with Gary Aburn (aka Arab). Mandy was the first female kakapo ever to be seen (by a human) in the 20th century.

Déjà, le nom, ça ressemble à une blague de gamin de 2ans et arrache un sourire. Mais oui, c'est bien comme ça qu'il s'appelle ! Cet oiseau, de la famille des perroquets est carrément fondant ! Originaire de Nouvelle Zélande, il est le plus gros spécimen de sa famille et sa particularité est qu'il ne vole pas. Sympathique, pataud, futé, ce perroquet était en voie de disparition. Association et scientifiques se sont unis pour le protéger, et il semblerait que leurs efforts soient lentement…
