Balance
Scoping review on standing postural control: The primary objectives of this study were (1) to identify measures of standing balance for pediatric populations, and (2) to determine the components of standing postural control captured in each measure using a systems perspective. A secondary objective was to examine how developmental considerations for balance were accounted for in the development or initial pediatric testing of each measure

f you think orthotics are an important part of your practice (and you should) you might want to check out some of the Abstracts from The College of Podiatry Annual Conference 2017. I've pasted my favorite below - always such a good feeling when researchers are able to prove what clinicians have been preaching - Thanks Cylie Williams

Having just listened to Nancy Hylton describe the importance of using foot orthoses and & not assuming the most obvious issue is the cause of the problem, this adult msk research caught my attention https://www.physiospot.com/…/foot-exercises-foot-orthoses-…/ Listen to Nancy discuss this here 👉🏻 http://www.wiredondevelopment.com/…/Nancy-Hylton-SPIO-Casca…

Differential diagnoses are so important for planning treatment and advising parents/teachers - I often think the diagnoses is more dependent on the clinician's own frame of reference than the child's actual issues - ADHD, dypsraxia, SPD, ASD, DCD - it's a minefield!

Interesting finding in this research on unilateral CP - the unaffected side is also not "typical" - makes me think about history of use and the impact of that on body structure https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28967503

Dopamine Gene Variation Influences How Children with CP Do on Movement Training, Study Suggests Fascinating - not only do we need to consider age, sex, GMFCS levels and type of cerebral palsy, but now gene variations too! No wonder research in rehabilitation is so complicated! https://cerebralpalsynewstoday.com/…/study-suggest-dopamine…
How many of us have the confidence to fail? It's not easy as a professional - even if you know intellectually it's an effective way to learn. That's why I'm so excited about this brilliant new initiative. Submitting a case study and analyzing other case studies anonymously - it's like falling with a harness on - all the benefits of feeling safe to make mistakes without any of the downsides!
